1 killed, 2 injured in NW Atlanta shooting

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- Atlanta Police say one person was killed and two others injured in a shooting in northwest Atlanta Friday night.

According to authorities, homicide detectives responded to the residence shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday. Investigators said the three victims were shot during a home invasion in the 300 block of Lanier Street. All three were transported to a local hospital, where one of the victims, 27-year-old Anthony Chalmers, was pronounced dead. The other two were last known to be in critical condition.

Man killed in west Atlanta shooting

ATLANTA -- Atlanta police have confirmed that a man has died after a shooting, Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened in the 400 block of Illinois Avenue NW.

16-year-old hospitalized after being shot by Atlanta police

ATLANTA -- Police say an officer shot a 16-year-old burglary suspect Thursday night. 

The incident happened in the 1400 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW near an area gas station.

Police said the incident started as a burglary in the area that proceeded to involve a stolen van that police were following. The van ended up crashing into a pole off of Chappell Road. The suspect, a teenage boy, then ran across the street to a nearby gas station where he was met by police officers.

Officers fired at least one shot that hit the suspect.

Witnesses at the scene told 11Alive what they saw.

“I seen the guy running; he was holding up his pants,” one witness said. “And the cop pulled the gun – it was two cops – and he shot the man.”

Pedestrian fatally struck near West End MARTA station

ATLANTA – Police are investigating a deadly accident near the West End MARTA station early Saturday.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. along West Whitehall Street near Lee Street.

Police say a man tried to cross the street, but was struck by a driver. That driver did stay on the scene.

There’s no word if the driver will face charges.


APD kicks off employee appreciation events

ATLANTA (WXIA) – On Thursday, the Atlanta Police Department kicked off its employee appreciation events for officers and personnel in Zone 1.

The event recognized officers and personnel at the Zone 1 headquarters. Speakers included Police Chief George Turner, Zone 1 Assistant Commander Capt. William Gourley and other city leaders.

Emory Healthcare Midtown sponsored the event and Firehouse Subs provided lunch for those attending. The police department will be holding similar events in the other precincts around the city.
