ATLANTA -- GME Sports Lounge hosted The 1st Annual MLK Renaissance Fest, Atlanta Super Fest for the 2013 Memorial Day holiday. Atlanta’s Historic West End District was filled with thousands who participated in family oriented games, entertainment, and music that rejuvenated the commercial district.

The festival was opened by Atlanta City Council President Cesar Mitchell, who presented a proclamation naming May 25 and May 26 the MLK Renaissance Festival Weekend. Several well known Atlanta residents came out to show their support, including Love & Hip Hop Atlanta cast member Momma Dee, recording artists RL, Wingo, Mishon, Cori Sims, Sammie, TLC Sisterhood Pastor D. & B. Scott, Collipark Record Label executives. Performances included Ying Yang Twins, Myko Montana, Tex James, Young Tone, DTE Trouble, Fabo and La Da Boomman.  Former Atlanta Falcon DT Thomas Johnson held the NFL Kid’s Challenge, which stressed importance of staying active and being healthy.

The festival was supported by Streetz 94.5 FM, Metro PCS and MLK Resurgence Commission at the Historical West End Village (which is a collaboration of business owners, and community advocates working to improve the neighborhood and stimulate economic development).

According to festival sponsor Wesley Kelly of GME Sports Lounge, the festival’s goal was to unite, empower, and bridge the gap of ages, cultures, and genders in the community.

“The festival was a real success, Kelly said. “We were happy to see thousands of people come out and enjoy themselves in an Atlanta business district which many people have preconceived ideas about, or have written off.  I am sure this weekend shows that we are back.”
