Over the course of your life, the chances of being the victim of a crime are at least one in three, higher if you live in a large city, and higher still if you’re a woman. The criminal’s objective is to maximize gain and minimize risk, and he’ll usually pick the easiest target with the most to offer. Given these odds, it pays to take precautions by following some basic safety rules:

ATLANTA -- Police said an argument led to gunfire in southwest Atlanta Thursday night.

Two men reportedly shot each other at around 11:30 p.m. at the Towne West Manor Apartments in the 300 block of Brownlee Road.

Atlanta Police Lt. Charles Hampton said one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. No names were released.

The shooting is under investigation.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A man found shot in his car on an Interstate 20 exit ramp has died.

The victim was shot at around 10 p.m. Thursday at the Fairview Inn in the 4300 block of Fulton Industrial Boulevard. Fulton County Police determined he was shot at the hotel and somehow made it to the nearby ramp before passing out.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

Police are now trying to determine who shot the victim and why he was targeted.

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police are asking for help identifying a pair of shoplifting suspects.

The two were caught on surveillance video stealing purses from the Dillard's at Atlantic Station on Aug. 30.

The video shows a black man and woman grabbing several handbags and running out of the store. A Dillard's loss prevention officer said the two got into a getaway car driven by a third suspect, a light-skinned black man in his 20's.

The officer described the car as a gray Toyota Yaris with Georgia tag PRF42221.

Anyone who can help police identify the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS.

Atlanta window treatment store burglarized for second time

Atlanta window treatment store burglarized for second time

ATLANTA -- A northwest Atlanta store that sells window treatments was burglarized Friday morning.

It was the second break-in this month at the Shade Store on Howell Mill Road, between Huff Road and 14th Street.

Police dispatchers said the burglary happened at around 4:45 a.m. Three suspects drove a green Dodge Magnum up to the store and gained access to the building by breaking windows. They stole some merchandise, then escaped by driving toward Huff Road.

Dispatchers described the suspects as three black men. No one has been arrested.

The burglary is under investigation.

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police said a body was found inside a car in northwest Atlanta Friday morning.

The remains were discovered inside a red Jeep parked at Collier Heights Park in the 3600 block of Collier Drive. The Jeep's driver side door had an apparent bullet hole.

The victim has not been identified, and the death is under investigation.

Hiram carjacking suspect arrested in Atlanta

HIRAM, Ga. – A man accused of stealing a woman's car at a gas station in Hiram was arrested in northwest Atlanta after committing a similar crime.

Zachary Shipp, 24, was taken into custody at around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. He was arrested after stealing a Porsche Cayenne from a Chevron station in the 2600 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.

According to a police report, an officer spotted Shipp driving the stolen car and tried to pull him over. In his attempt to escape, Shipp drove the Porsche off the road and hit a utility pole. While arresting Shipp, officers found two small bags of marijuana hidden under his scrotum.

He was charged with auto theft, obstruction, marijuana possession, firearm possession, reckless conduct and leaving the roadway.
