Burglary suspect caught after police chase in NW Atlanta


ATLANTA -- A burglary suspect was arrested after a brief police chase in northwest Atlanta overnight.

Atlanta Police patrol officers stumbled upon a burglary in progress at a house in the 900 block of Lena Street NW at around 3 a.m. Friday.

Atlanta Police Capt. Jack Snowden said the two burglary suspects jumped into a car and drove away. They stopped the car at New Jersey Avenue and tried to run.

Pursuing officers captured one of the suspects. The other one got away, according to Snowden.

The suspects' names have not been released.

Pedestrian robbed on Huff Road in northwest Atlanta


ATLANTA -- A pedestrian was robbed by at least four suspects in northwest Atlanta overnight.

The victim was robbed at around 12:15 a.m. in the 1100 block of Huff Road NW near Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard.

Atlanta Police described the suspects as four black men. They were riding in a Nissan Altima.

The victim was not injured. No names have been released.

Man shot to death on Bolton Road

ATLANTA -- A man was found shot to death in northwest Atlanta Monday night.

The body of 33-year-old Randy Cherry was found at around 11:45 p.m. inside a house in the 1400 block of Bolton Road NW.

Atlanta Police Capt. Jack Snowden said Cherry suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Investigators believe he is a homicide victim.

So far, police have not identified any suspects or witnesses to the shooting.

Atlanta police release sketch of rape suspect

ATLANTA -- Police are looking for a man they say raped a 53-year-old woman in northwest Atlanta.

The victim was attacked in the area of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and South Elizabeth Place.

She described the suspect as a black man in his late teen or early 20's. Police used her description to create a composite sketch of the attacker.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or provide information in this case is asked to call Atlanta police at 404-546-6663 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Snowy footprints lead cops to burglary suspect

ATLANTA -- While some may have seen this week's winter weather as an inconvenience, Atlanta police are crediting the snow with helping them solve a burglary case.

Someone took a gas generator and air compressor from K&K Soul Food on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in northwest Atlanta early Thursday. The restaurant is closed and under construction because of a recent fire.

Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said responding officers saw footprints and wheel tracks in the snow outside the restaurant. They followed the tracks to a house at the corner of Neal Street and Sunset Avenue, about a mile away.

Car break-ins reported at senior citizens' home

ATLANTA -- About a dozen cars were broken into at a senior housing complex in northwest Atlanta Friday morning.

The break-ins happened at around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Berean Village on Westview Place SW.

Witnesses said the break-in suspects also drove a U-Haul into the building's front porch area.

No one was hurt, but a number of residents' cars had their windows smashed. Nobody has been arrested.

One resident said cars have been stolen from the home's parking lot in the past.

Inmate escapes, is captured 2 hours later

ATLANTA -- A Fulton County Jail inmate who escaped from a transport bus Tuesday evening was caught just a few hours later.

Ulysesse Cleckley, 21, managed to get out of the bus at around 5:30 p.m. on English Avenue in northwest Atlanta. Several agencies, including the Atlanta Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol, began a manhunt.

At around 7:18 p.m., Cleckley was arrested at the North Avenue MARTA station in Midtown.

Fulton County Sheriff's spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said Cleckley was originally charged with first-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit burglary, second-degree criminal property damage and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He will now face additional charges related to the escape.
