Police investigate shooting in NW Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Wednesday night, yellow crime scene tape cordoned off the 500 block of Center Hill Avenue in northwest Atlanta as children and their parents sat in disbelief.

They were shocked because of the brazen gun violence that sent bullets flying in every direction near their homes.

Four people were hit and had to be hospitalized.

"Right now it appears as though there was a verbal dispute that then led to a physical altercation of some sort between neighbors at this location," Atlanta Police Spokesperson Ralph Woolfolk said. "At some point in time, multiple weapons were brandished and multiple shots were fired."

Witnesses described a scene of chaos and close calls in the crossfire.

One man, who did not want to be identified said a bullet actually hit his wheel chair when he couldn't get out of the way.

"They started out fighting a big brawl," he said. "Then dude ran in the house and grabbed a pistol and semi-automatics and started shooting. I was right in the middle of it."

Several people were detained for questioning and tensions are still high hours after the violence erupted.

"We have to speak to each one of those individuals. We have to verify the accuracy of the information that was provided. We have to corroborate that information so our investigators," Woolfolk said. "So our investigators are working through that at this point."
