Principal: Laura Strickling
Testing Coordinator: Pamela Patterson
SRT-4 Executive Director: Tamara Cotman
ATLANTA -- The Governor's Special Investigators who wrote a report of CRCT cheating in Atlanta Public Schools concluded that very little cheating happened at Bolton Academy Elementary in 2009.
Ameera Lucky, a teacher at the school, told investigators that she witnessed a group of teachers erasing stray marks on students' answer sheets in a conference room. She also accused principal Laura Strickling of backdating sensitive materials, such as evaluations and receipt of documents.
Lucky said she and others reported these observations to SRT-4 director Tamara Cotman, who took no action, according to the report. (337)
Another teacher, Tabitha Stroud, claimed that some Bolton Academy teachers used voice inflection to tell students the correct answers on test questions, and that Strickling put false information in her employees' personnel files.
When questioned, Strickling denied any knowledge of cheating. (338)
Teacher Theresa Powell was suspended for 30 days for cheating on the 2008 CRCT. She told investigators that she was "surprised to see that she was flagged" again in 2009, as she had been given a proctor for the test and didn't have an opportunity to erase answers.
Still, the investigators concluded that "although we have concerns, especially regarding the possible attempts by Principal Strickling to interfere with this investigation," there was not enough cheating to warrant further investigation.
Strickling is still listed as Bolton Academy's principal on the school's website.
