Falcons prepare for Minicamp

Falcons prepare for Minicamp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga -- The OTAs are winding down at the Atlanta Falcons' headquarters in Flowery Branch.  The voluntary off season workouts have been well attended and the participation looks to be paying off.

With new Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, the team has spent the past few weeks digesting changes that are being put in place for the 2012 season.  Wide receiver Harry Douglas is glad the changes are taking place this year rather than last summer, when the NFL teams were locked out.  Douglas has spent time working special teams as a punt returner during OTAs and says "I did it some during my roookie season and fell in love with it."  It will be something to watch for during training camp.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Mike Smith was pleased with the level of participation and what the team has accomplished during the OTAs and says the upcoming Minicamp will be a continuation of what has been taking place the past few weeks.

Atlanta's ‘BEST WORLD MUSIC ACT’ Salutes Men on Father's Day

Atlanta's ‘BEST WORLD MUSIC ACT’ Salutes Men on Father's Day

ATLANTA -- You have seen them on NBC television network reality series “America’s Got Talent” and if you are a reality-show junkie, you remember them sharing  their high-energy dance experience with singer/songwriter Kandi Burruss and Attorney Phaedra Parks in connection with their travels to South Africa on BRAVO cable network top-rated reality series “Real Housewives of Atlanta”.

Now, the 19-year Atlanta-based ensemble GIWAYEN MATA, is going  to bring their ‘contagious’ high energy drum and dance to the Southwest Arts Center for Father's Day. Between educating audiences about African traditions and breaking barriers as an all-sistah ensemble in a male dominated percussion industry, its no wonder Creative Loafing Magazine named them "Best Local World Music Act" three times!

Ramblin Wreck Hits The Road To El Paso

Ramblin Wreck Hits The Road To El Paso

ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia Tech aerospace engineering major Mike MacMillan of Marietta is coming to the end of a high profile position on the football field.  But he's never made a tackle or caught a pass for the Jackets.

MacMillan is the driver of the Ramblin' Reck, the 1930 model A Ford sport coupe that has been driven out in front of the team for every home game since 1961.  Drivers are elected by the Reck Club, and hold that position for one year.  MacMillan's stint ends after the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.

He and three fellow club members left Tuesday evening, hauling the car 1406 miles to El Paso.  The truck pulling the hauler is one of the gifts from the class of 1984 when they celebrated their 25th anniversary.  The car was not taken to some recent bowl appearances on the west coast, but was at the 2004 NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.

LOCAL PROFILE: NFL Linebacker Rennie Curran

LILBURN -- Former Brookwood High School football standout, Rennie Curran is patiently waiting for a new jersey. Over the past two years, Curran went from the University of Georgia to LP Field in Nashville and now he's back at home.

Curran was released shortly after this year's NFL pre-season, despite leading the team in tackles during the pre-season.

Since being cut, Curran has been training at Catalyst and other gyms to ensure that when he does get a call, he wont miss a step. Curran is pretty confident he'll be wearing someone's jersey soon.
