Gordon Farmer was 91 when he died Friday. The Augusta Chronicle reports that Farmer served as a navigator on a B-17 bomber during World War II and graduated from Georgia Tech. He went on to create the Augusta Concrete Block Company.

Nancy Glaser, executive director of the Augusta Museum of History, said Farmer hated to see things torn down or destroyed. She said he tried to preserve pieces of buildings being torn down and amassed a massive collection of cars and other relics, including a 1928 fire engine and 1875 cotton gin donated to the museum.

Farmer was featured on a 2010 episode of "American Pickers" entitled "Gordon's Gold Mine."
